Top 5 Best Gaming Laptops under $2000 to buy in 2020

Which affordable gaming laptop you should buy?

As powerful as desktop PCs, yet thin and light enough to travel, top 5 Best Gaming Laptops under $2000 allow you to play hard, and everything! Here are the five best models tested by our lab.

Summary-Affordable Gaming laptops

  1. Dell Alienware Area 51m
  2. Asus ROG Zephyrus G14
  3. Dell Alienware m15 R2
  4. Gigabyte Aorus 17 YA
  5. Millenium ML3 R207Q

No need to bother with a large PC in tower format to play in good conditions. Thanks to Nvidia’s “mobile” 3D chips and the latest generations of Intel chips, laptops can now run the most resource-intensive games with an excellent level of detail, while remaining true nomadic machines.

There are some very good “gamer” laptops that barely weigh two kilos. The most powerful, however, can easily exceed 4 kilos (not counting the weight of the adapter) and are rather designed to replace a tower at home.

Best budget gaming laptop 2020

In terms of performance, the best machines are those equipped with GeForce RTX chips from Nvidia, the RTX 2060, 2070 and 2080 (classic, Super or Max-Q ). They are generally accompanied by Intel chips with 4, 6 or even 8 cores. The latest are those of the Comet Lake-H family and all have a reference that begins with the number “10” and ends with an “H” or the couple “HK” like the Core i5-10400H or the Core i9 -10980HK.

In recent weeks, the first AMD Ryzen 7 or 9 4000 series laptops have finally hit the shelves. One of them is even in our Top 5. Their goal? Capsize the Cores, of course!

On the most muscular gaming PCs, there is 16 or 32 GB of DDR4 RAM, with the added bonus of a super-fast SSD module of 512 GB or 1 TB of storage. Or two SSDs or a couple made up of an SSD and a large hard drive. With such a level of equipment, these machines, beyond the 3D game, are also very powerful workstations.

But beware of the prices! A gaming laptop is expensive, much more expensive than a desktop PC of comparable performance.

But beyond these Rolls of the game, there are many much more affordable models, based on Intel and AMD processors again, and most of them equipped with new generation Nvidia graphics cards but less muscular than the RTX. These are the classic GeForce GTX 1650 and 1660 , Ti and / or Max-Q. AMD still shines with its absence on graphics chips for laptops.

5. Millenium ML3 R207Q- best budget gaming laptop 2020

First try almost transformed for the prestigious team of e-Sport Millenium who rub shoulders with the competitive world of laptops for gamers. It must be said that, to design its machine, the team called on a coach of choice: Intel. It is the founder’s teams specializing in the creation of NUC mini PCs who designed, thought out and assembled this laptop PC, with its very attractive characteristics.

4. Gigabyte Aorus 17 YA- best budget gaming laptop 2020

It’s one of the massive gaming weapons that Gigabyte released a few weeks ago and that we’ve had the opportunity to put to the test. He is imposing and powerful. Very powerful. Its mechanical-type keyboard is pleasant to navigate, especially for playing. A little less to work. Its Full HD screen lacks a bit of brightness, yes, but it makes up for it with a remarkable display speed of 240 Hz.

3. Dell Alienware m15 R2- best budget gaming laptop 2020

The Alienware m15 R2 was stolen second from the top but retained a place on the podium. Its housing is magnificent and the comfort of play or work reaches new heights. The model we tested relied on a 4K OLED screen to seduce us. Display techno had its effect, definition, much less, because it has an impact on performance. The same, with a Full HD panel, we love it.

2. Asus ROG Zephyrus G14- best budget gaming laptop 2020

The Zephyrus G14 is a true gaming laptop. In the strict sense of the word. It is light, compact and takes a lot of time on battery … as long as you don’t start a game. For gaming, with the adapter plugged into the mains, it’s a little bomb. And the AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS processor had something to do with it.

Combined with a good little RTX from Nvidia, as you will discover in the test below, it does wonders. Note, however, that the version we tested had more SSDs than the model currently sold on the market.

It is not because certain machines are not in this classification that they do not deserve that we are interested in them. This is particularly the case with the Acer Triton 500 which was our number 5 a few weeks ago and which was excluded from the Top, due to the set of musical chairs. We also had to say goodbye to HP’s Omen X 2S , the version we tested is no longer sold.

But others, less muscular, still are.
Among the new entrants to the market, watch out for Asus’ new TUFs. We are in the process of wrapping up the test of one of them – the TUF 566IV – and, for the price, if they are all the same wood as ours, then they could well make a pretty good deal.

If you want to acquire a machine that is much more massive and just as powerful as our number 1, take a look at the titanic Acer Predator Helios 700 and its sliding keyboard which, when pulled towards you, acts like a Turbo on the whole setup.

1. Dell Alienware Area 51m- most expensive gaming laptop

Quite simply, it’s the most powerful gaming laptop in the world! Alienware is a techno monster, equipped with the best 3D chip of the moment, the GeForce GTX 2080 from Nvidia, and an 8-core Intel processor from… desktop PCs. A new version of the machine is also planned for this summer 2020, still equipped with Intel but with the latest Core, the Comet Lake-S .
The machine is painful to transport, with its 4 kilos and its two large chargers, but it ridicules all its competitors for the game and for the rest. Unsurprisingly, the price of the machine is as crazy as its equipment.
Note, the storage is down to 1 TB SSD. Until last April, Dell offered 1 TB of SSD and 1 TB of hard drive for the astronomical sum requested.
