Samsung Galaxy M31s Review. M31s Samsung Lowest Price in Pakistan 2020
Samsung’s Galaxy M line is constantly changing and improving, with the Korean company paying the most attention to it. And this is justified – the M family is designed to compete with Chinese competitors in the budget segment, and this is very difficult. The new Samsung Galaxy M31s smartphone, which came to my review, is still the most expensive in the series.
But, the cost has increased for a reason: the Galaxy M31s has some interesting technologies like the Infinity-O display and 25W fast charging. This is in addition to a four-camera system with a 64MP main sensor and a 6000mAh battery. After the appearance of M31s, many other smartphones from Samsung now look disadvantageous, in particular, the Galaxy A51 and A21s.
Design and appearance
The Galaxy M31s’ case is made of the same fiberglass as its siblings. But, this time Samsung decided to add a gradient to the back cover for added appeal. The version with a dark body, which came to my review, looks great, and the weight of the powerful battery makes you quickly forget about plastic. In fact, the design of the Samsung Galaxy M31s is practically the same as the A51 and the rest of the A-series models, so you don’t have to worry about looks.
The smartphone initially did not seem cheap, but in a short period of use I found that there were already small scratches on the back panel. If a phone can be scratched so easily in less than a week, I’m unsure of the aesthetics with longer use. The fingerprint scanner is located on the side, in the power button. The good news is that Samsung did not install it under the screen – not a single optical one can compare with physical scanners in terms of operating speed. In addition, the side position is more convenient than on the back or front.
The bottom of the M31s houses a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB Type-C port, and a speaker hole. The smartphone has no official claims of water or dust resistance, which is not uncommon for this price point. The camera module on the back has a small protrusion. It’s almost the same shape as the Galaxy M31, but the location of the sensors and the LED flash is different.
Samsung Galaxy M31s and A51 are similar not only in appearance, but also in their displays – here we get the same 6.5-inch Super AMOLED Infinity-O screen. The deep blacks make the picture look amazing – the colors are rich and the viewing angles are wide. However, the maximum brightness is slightly higher here, it is sufficient in any light. A small upgrade is visible on the front, from a “drop” cutout to a centered hole, which Samsung refers to as the Infinity-O. However, the bezels around the display are too large, especially at the bottom. In future models of the budget and mid-range segment from Samsung, I would like to see a more modern approach. The only disappointment I got was the lack of a higher refresh rate. We can already get several devices with a refresh rate of 90 Hz and even 120 Hz in this price segment. Therefore, Samsung should seriously consider the possibility of an update in this aspect.
Galaxy M31s camera
Unlike the M31, the Samsung Galaxy M31s uses a new 64MP main sensor, although in terms of quality there is no noticeable difference between the two models. In addition to this, there are now full Single Take and Pro shooting modes. Single Take is a feature of One UI 2.1, so with the Android 11 update, it should also appear on the Galaxy M31 and M21. This is arguably the most interesting and thoughtful camera mode from Samsung in recent years. After pressing the shutter release, the smartphone takes a series of photos and videos using different filters and lenses.
As a result, you have access to a whole set of stills and short clips, from which you then choose the best. This is a great mode for situations where you don’t know whether to take a photo or a video. It is also great for quickly capturing a beautiful moment at a party or your pet’s funny behavior. Most surprisingly, the processing of photos and videos is fast, despite the not the best processor, in this regard, the Galaxy M31s is almost as good as the flagships.
As for the Pro mode, in it you can adjust the shutter speed and other options; this feature appears on budget Samsung smartphones only now. In fact, you now have control over the shooting process yourself, which is especially convenient in low light. The night mode available to us will cope well with dark conditions, although the best results are achieved with an independent, competent setting of shutter speed and ISO. For ultra-wide-angle photos, there is a 12MP sensor, which is the largest in the M line at the moment.
Compared to the previously used 8MP camera, more detail is now preserved – at least when zooming in on a large screen. But the depth sensor, macro lens and front camera remain the same as in the M31.
The Samsung Galaxy M31s phone runs Android 10 with One UI 2.1. The Core version of the new interface from Samsung is installed here, so some features have been cut. However, the most remain: among them Quick Share and Music Share, as well as all the features available in the M31. Quick Share lets you quickly share files over Wi-Fi with other Samsung smartphones running One UI 2.1.
Music Share will enable other users to play music through an audio device connected to your gadget via Bluetooth, and they do not need to connect to the player themselves. Unfortunately, despite the increased price, there is no possibility of payment via Samsung Pay, as well as via Samsung Pay Mini. The Korean company also still hasn’t removed the annoying notifications prompting them to install various third-party apps. Yes, Samsung has to earn in such a way that the price of smartphones in this price category is lower, but the M31s is already not cheap.
Should you buy?
The Samsung Galaxy M31s is a good value for money option. It has a huge battery, 25W fast charging and a great camera with an interesting Single Take mode. In addition, there is a very high quality Super AMOLED Infinity-O display.
