Oppo Reno 6 5G smartphone review & Retail Price in Pakistan 2021

Just six months ago, Reno 5 5G was released, but the sequel is already ready. The Oppo Reno 6 5G has a revamped design, although the hardware remains much the same. In general, this is a good all-round mid-range smartphone with a MediaTek Dimensity 900 processor and 8/12 GB of RAM.

As always with Oppo, there is support for very fast charging at 65W, which allows you to forget about the not very high capacity of the 4300 mAh battery. The cameras correspond to the middle segment – they shoot well, but you shouldn’t expect miracles. I found out what else the Oppo Reno 6 5G offers us.

Design and appearance

The Oppo Reno line has always been great design and the Reno 6 5G doesn’t break with tradition.

The flat side frames are made of anodized aluminum and the back cover is made of plastic, but it also feels like aluminum. The matte surface is pleasant to the touch, while the star-black color shimmers in daylight. No prints and stains remain on this material.

The module with cameras is located in the upper left corner and protrudes slightly, and inside there are three sensors one below the other. To the right of them is an LED flash and a color temperature sensor for better determination of white balance.

On the left side of the Oppo Reno 6 5G case, there are volume rocker keys, and on the right side there is a power button with a green stripe. All keys are responsive, although too high. At the same time, the fingerprint scanner under the display is located too low – if you have large palms, you will have to constantly strain your thumb.

On the underside, you can see a speaker, a USB-C connector and a slot for two SIM cards, but no microSD. The display is flat and covered with Gorilla Glass 5, and in the upper left corner is the opening of the front camera. It could have been smaller and slightly to the left to make room for the icons in the status bar, but that’s not such a big problem.

The Reno 6 is one of the smallest and lightest smartphones in its segment with a 6.43-inch display and a weight of 182 grams. The thickness of the case is also impressive – only 7.6 mm. However, the sides are not rounded, so the phone seems larger in the hands than some other compact models. In addition, the back surface is slippery, so you need to be careful.

Smartphone screen

The display of the Oppo Reno 6 5G is the same as that of the Reno 5. It is a 6.43-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels, an aspect ratio of 20: 9 and a refresh rate of 90 Hz.

There is support for HDR10, and the maximum brightness in automatic mode reaches 630 nits. With manual tuning, it can go up to 440 nits. Unfortunately, tint accuracy is not one of the advantages of this screen, in Vivid mode there is a noticeable shift towards blue tones.

The soft profile is more accurate, but also far from ideal. If you want natural colors, you can set the temperature yourself using the slider.

Oppo Reno 6 5G display quality

The refresh rate of 90 Hz for this price segment already seems insufficient – many competitors can boast of 120 Hz. Also, the frequency is completely static: 90 Hz will be everywhere, except for some standard applications and when watching video.

Reno 6 5G Cameras

Oppo has removed the depth sensor from the Reno 6 5G, and the rest of the cameras are the same. Main 64 megapixel, ultra wide-angle 8 megapixel ultra-wide-angle and 2 megapixel macro.

For the middle segment, the image quality of the main sensor of the Reno 6 is normal: in daylight, the images are good, but nothing more. The detail is high enough to get a closer look, and the dynamic range is wide.

On the other hand, the exposure is not always fine-tuned – the frames are too dark. Whites are also warmer than they should be. If you shoot with the Reno6 indoors, the detail will drop dramatically – probably due to the noise reduction algorithms.

The Oppo Reno 6 5G does not have a separate telephoto lens – only a digital 2x zoom is available, which simply crops the picture from the main camera. However, if you don’t look closely, the quality is about the same as that of telephoto lenses with 2x optical zoom on budget smartphones.

The ultra-wide-angle camera pleasantly surprises: the contrast is high, the colors are saturated, and the details are enough. It is impossible to demand more from such a sensor with a resolution of 8 megapixels in the middle segment.

Oppo Reno 6 5G camera quality

A 2 megapixel macro lens is standard: the quality is poor in low light, the detail is low, and there is no autofocus. Contrast is also lacking, and it is difficult to get a good shot.

Alas, the front camera with a resolution of 32 megapixels is also bad – photos lack sharpness, and noise appears in almost any light. For some reason, the shades are also pale, although there are no problems with the dynamic range. At the very least, the separation of the subject from the background is accurate, despite the lack of a depth sensor.

The video recording quality from the main camera of the Reno 6 5G is 2160p / 30 fps, while the ultra-wide angle is limited to 1080p / 30 fps. The videos do not differ in high detail, but they look good due to the saturated colors. There is an Ultra Steady stabilization mode, but it’s only available at 1080p.

Software

A few months after the release of Reno 5 5G, the ColorOS version has been updated from 11.1 to 11.3, and is running the Oppo Reno 6 5G.

Several bugs have been fixed and a number of improvements have been made, but there are no major changes. The shell is far from the pure Android interface in ColorOS has been significantly changed, and you can customize a lot yourself. By default, the application drawer is enabled, and at the bottom you will find a panel with all recently launched programs. The notification panel is familiar to all owners of Oppo smartphones: a set of square-round icons and a brightness slider below them.

Component performance

As a processor, Oppo Reno 6 5G uses MediaTek Dimensity 900, made using a 6nm process technology.

The chipset runs on eight cores: two efficient (Cortex-A76, 2.4 GHz) and six energy efficient (Cortex-A55, 2.0 GHz). Graphics accelerator – Mali-G68 MC4 with a frequency of 900 MHz. RAM can be 8 or 12 GB, and internal memory – 128 or 256 GB.

In the GeekBench 5 performance test, the smartphone scores 722/2131 points in single-core and multi-core modes. Compared to the Reno 5, the progress is great: the previous model has 608/1813 points. The 3DMark SSE ES 3.1 (offscreen 1440p) graphics test gives the Reno 6 a score of 3764 points.
