Oppo Reno 5 Lite price, Specification and Performance Review 2021

Today, mid-range smartphones offer so much that many users do not see the point in buying a flagship. Oppo Reno 5 Lite is a typical representative of such devices, with an attractive appearance and characteristics.

At first glance, the Reno 5 Lite has everything a modern smartphone needs. However, is this device really worth considering when choosing a new phone? I will try to answer the question in this review.

Oppo is not following the trend of reducing bundled accessories to a minimum. The Reno 5 Lite is packed in a slightly larger than average box, inside which you will find not only a charger and a SIM eject tool, but also a silicone case and headphones.

The transparent case fits very snugly around the smartphone, and it takes a little effort to put it on. I have no complaints about the headphones – they sound good for a complete headset.

Features and differences

The Reno 5 Lite’s specs seem pretty decent, although those who follow the smartphone market may have some comments.

First, the Oppo Reno 5 Lite is a slight evolution from its predecessor. We have the same processor, RAM and internal memory as in the Oppo Reno 4 Lite . In addition, the basic parameters of the screen of the tested smartphone are the same as those of the previous model.

Secondly, there are no elements that would make the Reno 5 Lite stand out from the competition and arouse interest (for example, 90 Hz refresh rate, stereo speakers).

Design and appearance

The Oppo Reno 5 Lite is a great smartphone for the layman in terms of looks. If you can’t decide which device color works best for you, this problem doesn’t exist here. In theory, the device I tested is blue-violet, in practice, a lot depends on the angle at which the light falls on it and from which side you look.

The back can be blue, silver or pink. The plastic case is not bad, but, unfortunately, dirt, fingerprints and minor scratches are visible. In addition, plastic at this price point will not live up to the expectations of some users. In general, the Reno 5 Lite’s workmanship does not give much cause for criticism.

As for the location of buttons, ports, etc., on the left side there is a slide-out tray for SIM-cards, a little below – the volume keys. On the right edge you will find the start button for the device. The bottom is the space Oppo has provided for the headphone jack, microphone, USB-C port and monaural speaker.

There is a round hole for the selfie camera in the upper left corner of the screen. A protruding module with main cameras is located on the back panel. The dimensions of the Oppo Reno smartphone allow for trouble-free and comfortable one-handed operation. By modern standards, the Reno 5 Lite is not overly large and relatively lightweight.

Smartphone screen

The screen of the tested smartphone Oppo Reno 5 Lite gives almost no reason for complaints, although it does not cause much joy.

We have an AMOLED panel with FullHD + resolution, high display quality, legible, very convenient to use. The brightness control range is large – the device can be used outdoors, even on a very sunny day.

It’s worth noting that at default settings, the colors displayed on the Reno 5 Lite’s screen are noticeably warmer than on other AMOLEDs. The color temperature can of course be changed. It’s a shame the 90Hz refresh rate is missing, which would be an advantage over its predecessor.

Oppo’s decision is even more perplexing, since some time ago a better screen appeared in a cheaper model ( Oppo A53 ). And this despite the fact that the potential for a refresh rate of 90 Hz was previously limited by the components used.

Oppo Reno 5 Lite cameras

Photos taken with the Reno 5 Lite cameras during the day can definitely be enjoyed. Pictures are sharp and colors look natural.

To see any flaws, you need to zoom in a lot. Thanks to the macro mode, even the smallest objects are captured as they should be. What about night photography?

The Oppo Reno 5 Lite doesn’t disappoint, although there is less detail in the photos taken after dark. The results of illuminated (even poorly) buildings or streets look good. Problems begin when it is completely dark around. In such situations, night mode will brighten the scene so that the subject can be seen, however, focusing will deteriorate.

The tested Oppo smartphone can shoot video in 720p, 1080p and 4K – in each of these cases, the speed reaches only 30 frames per second. If you choose from 1080p, you’ll have the option to turn on better image stabilization, which works, for example, when we’re shooting on the go. The Reno 5 Lite is also equipped with the ability to record video from the front and rear cameras simultaneously.

The tested smartphone is made by Oppo, which means that we will be faced with the ColorOS interface.

It is quite colorful, pleasing to the eye and does not cause problems in use. In the right corner of the screen, you can expand an additional panel with shortcuts for frequently used functions. In my case, the ability to change its location turned out to be useful, because in the default settings it was overlapped by pop-up messages.
