  • Pretty good screen … once calibrated.
  • Ideal format for holding in hand.

  • Very disappointing autonomy.
  • Poor photo part.
  • Low contrast screen.
  • No waterproofing.

The Chinese Huawei maintains some ties with the American Google, evidenced by its P Smart range which offers the Play Store. But apart from that relief, what is the Huawei P Smart 2020 worth?

Huawei persists and signs by expanding a renowned P Smart range. The 2020 version of the terminal, offered at 39,000 pkr, benefits from Google Play Services, and therefore from the Play Store to download all apps. The manufacturer therefore relies on architecture with an already validated license, and not on technical innovations.

There is a 6.21-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and a 19.5: 9 aspect ratio. The Huawei P Smart 2020 also includes a Kirin 710 SoC associated with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB internal storage.

A single usable back photo module is available, a 13-megapixel wide-angle, but we also discover a depth sensor of 2 megapixels. For autonomy, Huawei relies on a 3,400 mAh battery, rechargeable via microUSB only.

Ergonomics and design

With its size of 155.2 x 73.4 x 8 mm and a weight of 160 g, the Huawei P Smart 2020 is one of the few smartphones that we still handle very easily, and it’s frankly pleasant. Any action can be easily done with one hand, even if the glossy finishes on the back are a bit slippery under the fingers. The coating is also untreated and fingerprints are legion, on the back and front.

The front of this phone is very classic with a 6.21-inch screen that takes up around 83% of the space, while the front camera is hidden in a teardrop-shaped notch. At the back, the P Smart has a fingerprint sensor that slides under the index finger, while the photo unit is positioned on the upper left corner. This imposing rectangle thus includes two lenses and an LED flash arranged vertically. It also makes flatbed use a bit tricky.

On the connectivity side, the mobile offers a microUSB charging port, a mini-jack and a dual SIM cart. The terminal is obviously not waterproof and does not offer a gyroscope, as is often the case with entry-level smartphones. The Bluetooth version is 4.2 only, but we note the presence of NFC and FM radio.

The Huawei P Smart 2020 houses a mid-grade mini-jack socket. Its power is quite low (72 mVrms) and its distortion contained at 0.006%. Dynamic range is a bit behind at 86 dB, while crosstalk readings are average.

In terms of screen, Huawei does not renew the proposal and incorporates a most classic IPS LCD panel. It is also a little disappointing on certain points, particularly on the contrast (871: 1) and the maximum brightness (344 cd / m²). Conversely, the minimum brightness is very sufficient (1.2 cd / m²) for comfortable reading in the dark.

In order not to be ashamed of its performance, the smartphone is based on a Kirin 710 SoC, exactly the same as on the P Smart 2019. Except that it is here supported by 4 GB of RAM, against 3 GB on the version former. The results obtained are not really exciting, the mobile ranking among the least gifted quarter passed through our lab.

The P Smart 2020 thus obtains an overall index of 69, which ranks it in the same rank as the Samsung Galaxy A51 , Honor 9X , or P Smart + 2019 . The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S obtains an overall index of 85, which is much more attractive. The Oppo A9 2020 also points to 83.

Is it by dint of pulling on the rope that Huawei got so lost on a phone? If the previous iterations of the P Smart range were able to convince, it must be recognized that the latest version is next to its pumps.

The Huawei P Smart 2020 comes with the Play Store, of course, but relies on an old mobile platform since it is one of those validated before the manufacturer’s placement on the blacklist in the United States. However, performance is not the heart of the problem with a phone that benefits from a fairly good screen, and especially a very pleasant format for handling.
