How to unlock window pc using android smartphone?
If you’re tired of typing in your password every time you turn on your computer, why not use the smartphone you always have on hand?
It’s been years since fingerprint scanners invaded the smartphone world. Practical, secure and efficient, these biometric sensors have made unlocking our smartphone faster. For a device that you unlock dozens or hundreds of times a day, that’s a real plus.
However, this technology has not become widely available on our laptops. With the exception of high-end models, many computers do not have this very practical sensor. Fortunately, there is a trick to use the fingerprint reader on your smartphone to unlock your PC and avoid having to enter a complex password each time.
1 – Download the Windows client
This trick is very simple and only requires you to download an app on your phone and, of course, another on your computer. The app is called Remote Fingerprint Unlock and is available on the Play Store .
First, get your PC and go to the app’s page on the Play Store . From there, follow the description link to find Windows executables.
Download the x86 version if your computer is 32 bits and the x64 version if it is 64 bits (if you don’t know, a right click on the Windows button then “System” should inform you).
Once the interminable antivirus scan has been carried out by Google Drive and the download is complete, install the app with the administrator privileges it requests.
Click on “Next” then “Install” then on “yes” when you are asked to create an exception in the Windows firewall. Once that is done, the app is installed.
2 – Download the Android app
Once the software is installed, you won’t see it anywhere, which is quite normal. It is only active when your computer is locked. Now it’s time to download the app to your Android phone.
- Go to the app’s page on the Play Store and download the app.
- Make sure you are connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
- Lock your computer (Windows + L).
- Click “Scan” in the window that opens when launching the app.
- Press the blue arrow then on “By scanning”.
- The name of your PC should appear.
- Click on it, give it whatever name you want.
- Uncheck “Send WoL-Packet” then click “Save”.
- If all went well, you should find your computer in “My Accounts”, accessible via the side menu.
3 – Link PC and phone
A window opens asking you to verify that the ID is the same on your computer and your PC.
Fill in your account information.
Click on “Add acount” in the frame corresponding to the PC you have just added then click on “OK”.
In “Account name”, enter your name as it appears on the lock screen.
In “Password”, enter the password you usually use to unlock your computer.
Scan your fingerprint on your smartphone reader.
Click on “Save”.
To check this, on your lock screen, click on the user “Fingerprint Unlock” and make sure the numbers displayed match those on your phone.
If so, then click “OK” on your smartphone. Otherwise repeat the procedure from the beginning.
If all went well, you should now be able to unlock your computer by opening the app and scanning your fingerprint on the “Unlock” screen! The Pro version – which we are talking about below – allows you to unlock a widget that prevents the app from opening each time.
