Apple iPhone 13 Complete Review & Price in USD 2021
One small bang reduction, a giant leap for all iPhones; this is how you can describe all the global changes that have taken place in the Apple iPhone 13. However, this is hardly enough to justify the transition from the previous model to the new model. However, the iPhone 13 is still one of the most powerful and popular smartphones on the market.
What is new in iPhone 13?
The same “bangs” that first appeared on the iPhone X in 2017 immediately became the standard for the entire industry and soon evolved into a “drop”, small holes, eventually turning into an invisible camera under the screen. However, for the first time in four years, Apple itself made some changes to the cutout design – it got smaller, and the process of getting rid of it finally began.
But, the iPhone 13 is interesting not only for this decision: it has a magnificent 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screen, an incredibly powerful Apple A15 Bionic chipset and excellent 12-megapixel cameras. The internal storage has doubled, the battery life has increased, and the software has been added with pleasant updates.
But these changes were not at all expected by the owners of the iPhone 12. Amazingly, the standard model still does not have a high refresh rate, although the Pro and Pro Max versions already have 120 Hz. Ultra-wide-angle autofocus is also only available on the more powerful iPhone 13. In general, Apple’s standard approach.
Design and appearance
In terms of appearance, the Apple iPhone 13 almost does not differ from the iPhone 12. There are only three changes: the location of the cameras on the back, a smaller cutout on the screen and a little heavier body.

But, it is still one of the most stylish and reliable smartphones on the market. There is no new iPhone without a new color – this time there is a pink version, replacing the green one. The two cameras on the back are now not under each other, but diagonally – the reason for this is the enlarged sensor of the main lens.
Apple iPhone 13 design
Inside the shortened “bangs” there is still a front camera and sensors for Face ID, above it is an earpiece. The dimensions of the iPhone 13 are almost the same as those of the i Phone 12 , although the weight has increased due to the larger battery and other components. The weight of the device is 174 grams (10 grams more), and the thickness has increased by 0.3 mm, so you will have to buy new covers.
Apple iPhone 13 smartphone
The 6.1-inch display of the new smartphone is covered with Ceramic Shield glass, which has already proven its reliability in the past. The back is protected by Gorilla Glass, and the traditional Apple logo can be seen in the middle. The module with cameras protrudes even more, which is why the gadget will not lie flat on the table. In addition to two cameras, the module contains a dual LED flash and one of the microphones.
Apple iPhone 13 side
One of the best features of the iPhone 12 was the flat sides, which are retained here as well. Thanks to them, it is convenient to hold the iPhone 13 in your hands, in contrast to the rounded iPhone 11. The device is also stable in an upright position. On the left side of the case, you will find volume keys, a switch for silent mode and a nano-SIM card slot. On the right is the power button with a set of functions: lock / unlock, call Siri and launch Apple Pay. On the underside there is a Lightning connector, microphones and a speaker.

There is also full protection from water IP68 – while Apple promises that the smartphone will survive submersion under water to a depth of 6 meters, within 30 minutes. But, remember, protection is relevant for fresh water – sea and salt water can damage the device.
The Super Retina XDR OLED display on the Apple iPhone 13 is 6.1-inch, the same size as last year’s model.
Apple iPhone 13 screen
There is support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision, although the main updates are shorter bangs and increased brightness. Unfortunately, the refresh rate remains the same – only the owners of the Pro and Pro Max versions will receive 120 Hz. The resolution is 2532 × 1170 with a pixel density of 460 ppi, with an aspect ratio of 19.48: 9.

Brightness reaches 800 nits with standard use and 1200 nits when watching HDR content. The minimum brightness drops to 1.7 nits. There is no automatic mode here, but Apple has always preferred to give users a choice whether they want to set maximum brightness or not.

The iPhone 13’s screen has outstanding tint accuracy, with an average deltaE in sRGB space of just 1.6. The display completely covers the DCI-P3 space, automatically switching to it when the corresponding content appears on the screen. The amazing thing is that the high color accuracy remains at any brightness – even 1.7 nits
There is support for all standard Apple technologies and functions: True Tone, Wide Color and Tactile touch.
IPhone 13 cameras
The camera set of the Apple iPhone 13 is almost identical to the iPhone 12: two 12MP lenses on the back and one on the front.

The main camera has increased the pixel size and has a matrix shift stabilization, like on the 12 Pro Max. The other two lenses are the same here as before. The application has also largely remained the same, only a new feature has appeared – Photographic Styles. It makes the tones in the photo brighter or more subdued without changing the skin tone. There are also four filters: Colorful, Warm, Cool and Vivid – contrast.
Shooting Apple iPhone 13
The shooting quality of the iPhone 13 is traditionally high: the detail is huge, the contrast is good when there is practically no noise. The dynamic range is not the widest, but the shades remain natural and balanced. If you don’t like colors that are too natural, you can always choose one of the Photographic Styles.
The 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera also captures great photos – the field of view is incredibly wide, and the shades are the same as the main lens. Thanks to the camera, the viewfinder also shows the parts that are outside the frame when shooting, making it easier to take a successful shot.

The front camera on the iPhone 13 can shoot in two modes. If you are in portrait orientation, the frame is zoomed in and out a little, so the final resolution is 7MP. In landscape orientation, it switches to normal mode from 12MP.
Video quality from all three lenses reaches 4K / 60 fps, and 1080p / 240 fps is available for slow-mo shooting. Of the codecs, you can choose between H.265 HEVC and H.264 when stereo audio is recorded at 192 kbps.
All new Apple iPhone 13s run Apple’s iOS 15 operating system , which is not much different from iOS 14, although the interface elements have changed slightly.

Updates also affected FaceTime, Messages, Safari browser (supports extensions), Wallet and Maps. Home screens can still be populated with the icons and widgets you want while the rest of the apps are in the library, on the right home screen. Some of these screens can be hidden – for example, with games when you’re at work.
IOS 15 introduces the Focus function, which allows you to switch between different modes: Work, Play, Sleep, Personal time and others. Other people will be able to see if you are currently available to chat, and the notifications you receive are limited. The function also allows you to hide some of the home screens.
Apple iPhone 13 software
Widgets can be placed on any home screen, next to the icons, their sizes are available: 2×2, 4×2 and 4×4. Widgets of the same size can be on top of each other, after which iOS will either automatically select the top one, or you can do it yourself using swipes. It really saves space on iPhone 13 home screens.
The application library is analogous to the Android application drawer, you cannot remove it. Located on the right home screen, all applications are added there, immediately after installation, and sorted by category. Sorting depends on the tags that developers assign after uploading to the App Store. Screen Today has remained for the time being, but it is becoming less useful. You can put the same widgets there, as well as from third-party developers that are not optimized for iOS 15.
The notification panel opens with a swipe from the top left of the screen, Control Center – from the right. Navigation gestures remain the same: swipe up from the bottom line and the application will close, from the bottom with a stop – the task switcher will start. Swipes from the sides perform the “back” and “forward” functions, when left or right along the bottom line – instantly switch between recent applications.
Apple iPhone 13 interface
Iphone 13 recognizes double and triple touches on the back of the case, which can be assigned any function. FaceTime has been redesigned to be more like Zoom, and in iOS 15 it supports the view of participants in a grid. Most importantly, not only Apple device owners can now participate in group calls – all you need is Chrome or Edge.
Big changes in iOS 15 also affected the Safari browser – for example, you can quickly switch between tabs by swiping left or right, along the bottom line. The address bar has moved down, and while scrolling through the pages, it is hidden. In addition, Safari now supports extensions available for download and installation through the App Store.
The new iPhone 13 is powered by Apple’s 5nm A15 Bionic processor, which contains 15 billion transistors – 27% more than the A14.
There are still six cores here: two large Avalanches clocked at 2.32 GHz and four small Blizzards clocked at 1.82 GHz. The quad-core graphics accelerator from Apple has also been updated, and the 16-core Neural Engine, which is responsible for complex machine learning tasks, such as voice and object recognition in images, remains. RAM 4 GB, internal storage – 128/256/512 GB, when the 5G connection is provided by the Qualcomm X60 modem.
The stereo speakers of the Apple iPhone 13 are as powerful as the previous model. The pair is formed by the main radiator at the bottom and the spoken one at the top.
Sound from Apple iPhone 13 stereo speakers
The sound is surprisingly voluminous compared to other smartphones that use the same approach. There is support for Dolby Atmos technology, when the volume at the maximum is very high. The quality is superb: bass is palpable and mids and highs are crisp, with some of the best stereo speakers on a smartphone.
The Apple iPhone 13 has a 3240 mAh battery, which is 15% more than last year. Battery life is also noticeably better – 16 hours of regular tasks or 17 hours of video.
Alas, charging has not changed yet – its maximum speed reaches 25W with the USB Power Delivery standard. Apple sells the 20W USB-C adapter separately, although you can purchase any device that supports USB-PD – there are many smaller, cheaper options available. Supports phone and wireless charging up to 15W, although a MagSafe adapter is required. Any other Qi-compatible device will give a speed of no more than 5-7 watts.
Apple iPhone 13 Battery
Apple’s 20W adapter recovers 55% energy in half an hour, while MagSafe recovers 30%. A full cable charge will take 1 hour and 45 minutes, which is odd since in 50 minutes the energy level reaches 80%, and the remaining 20% takes another 55 minutes. Through MagSafe, the complete process takes 2 hours and 20 minutes, which is 40 minutes. faster than last year’s indicators.

Alternatives to Apple iPhone 13
While it doesn’t make much sense to upgrade to the iPhone 13 from the iPhone 12, it is one of the best smartphones on the market today.
Apple iPhone 13 review
Last year’s iPhone has already begun to fall in price, and in terms of characteristics it is almost not inferior to the updated version. Apple phones are renowned for their flawless update support and long lifespan, so I advise you to consider buying the iPhone 12.
If you want a compact smartphone, the iPhone 13 mini came out, which is no different except for the size of the display – the diagonal is 5.4 inches. You can also take a closer look at the most powerful iPhone 13 Pro or 13 Pro Max, although even their most basic configurations will cost $799.
