Xiaomi Mi Mix 4 Price in Pakistan 2021: Review & Full Specifications
Xiaomi is associated with high-quality smartphones at an affordable price, but the manufacturer’s offers also include premium models – Mi MIX. Although work on the line was suspended in 2018, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 recently entered the market. A phone without bezels and cutouts, with innovative solutions. But is it?
Considering what the original Mi Mix was like, which became the pioneer of full-screen smartphones, it is not surprising that it is the new Mi MIX 4 that offers the most acceptable option, hiding the selfie camera.
Features and differences Xiaomi Mi MIX 4
Ever since Xiaomi tried to create a phone without bezels and cutouts in 2016 with the release of the original Mi Mix, many manufacturers, especially Chinese ones, have been chasing the dream of a smartphone with a full screen bezel. No buttons, no bezels, no cutouts.
In doing so, they found ingenious solutions to remove or relocate traditional smartphone components like the fingerprint reader, control buttons and speaker. But moving or completely replacing the front camera was not easy.
Companies have tried many different solutions, like placing a selfie camera in a pop-up or flip-up mechanism. Xiaomi has placed the camera of the original Mi Mix in the bottom corner. Other manufacturers have offered us a second screen on the back of the phone so that users can use the primary lens for selfies.
None of these solutions were without compromises: pop-up and moving mechanisms meant the device couldn’t be waterproof. Forcing the user to turn the phone over to take a photo also seems counterintuitive.
However, attempts are ongoing, and the latest options offer a selfie camera hidden under the display that can be shot through the display panel. Oppo presented this technology as a concept in 2019, it was picked up by ZTE at the end of 2020, and now Samsung and Xiaomi have entered the market with their implementations almost simultaneously.
How does the camera shoot through the display?
Basically, manufacturers compress the pixels in the part of the screen that covers the lens. This leaves room for light information to be transmitted to the camera sensor.
The technology requires a lot of technical and hardware tools, because if the pixels of the screen panel are not uniform, it will be noticeable to the naked eye. In both the ZTE Axon 20 (released September 2020) and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 (released recently), we see a defective display with a stain above the camera. Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 has no such problems.
This technology Xiaomi called CUP (camera under the panel) – uses special transparent fibers under the display to make part of the screen more invisible to both the user’s eyes and the sensor. Xiaomi claims to have spent $ 77 million on the development of the CUP in five years of research.
Mi MIX 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 3
But since the front camera shoots through multiple layers of glass, pixels, OLEDs and fibers, the picture that enters the image sensor is not as sharp. It is as if we were trying to look through a dusty or dirty window. In fact, when we view the frame in the camera’s viewfinder, the visuals look a little washed out, especially in detail.
Technologies in Xiaomi Mi MIX 4
This is where software processing comes into play: image post-processing from Xiaomi uses a proprietary algorithm that cleans up the image with multi-frame HDR and anti-fogging. In fact, if you take a selfie and then preview it immediately, you will see the changes in real time. The result is impressive as the final image lacks most of the flaws displayed in the camera’s viewfinder.
However, the technology does not work perfectly. Software processing algorithms can not correct all errors. When shooting in low light conditions, the photos will turn out worse than with a regular selfie camera.

Design and appearance
The body of Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 is made of ceramic – there is no plastic here, and this also applies to the keys.
The smartphone weighs 225 grams, so your wrist won’t get tired of the heaviness. There are three colors to choose from: gray, white and black. The back and sides of the screen are rounded to enhance the “borderless” display effect. You don’t need to worry about accidental clicks on the sides, because MIUI implements a protection mechanism.
The top side of the MIX 4 houses the IrDA, microphone and Harman / Kardon logo. On the bottom is the main speaker, another microphone, a USB-C connector and a SIM card slot. All control keys are located on the right. On the back cover there is a huge camera module in the upper left corner.
Mi MIX 4 is not heavier than many other glass flagships, and the ceramic coating turns out to be pleasant in the hands, the device looks very expensive. At the same time, no prints and stains remain on the back cover. Perhaps, in terms of comfort of use, the MIX 4 is one of the best smartphones of 2021.
As with previous models, the display is the main feature of the new Xiaomi Mi MIX 4. We get a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels with a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
Below the screen of Mi MIX 4 is a front-facing camera that you will not notice in everyday use. Although the pixels are smaller in this area, there is enough distance between them for light to reach the sensor.
Despite spending over $ 77 million and five years developing CUP (camera under panel) technology, the results are well worth it. The display really turned out to be “limitless”, nothing here will distract you while playing games or watching movies.
Cameras in Mi MIX 4
The cameras of Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 are not inferior to other flagships. It has a 108 MP main lens with optical stabilization, a 13 MP ultra wide-angle lens and an 8 MP telephoto lens.
The ultra-wide-angle sensor has a 120-degree field of view, while the telephoto lens has 5x lossless zoom and OIS. The main camera is capable of taking great pictures that will impress your social media followers. Photos have rich colors and a wide dynamic range, sometimes it even seems that they were taken with a professional camera.
Since the previous model of the Xiaomi MIX line came out more than three years ago, work on MIX 4 has continued since the end of 2018. Xiaomi wanted to impress the whole world with their new technologies – and the Chinese company succeeded, although they still work imperfectly.
With Xiaomi Mi MIX 4, we get a completely ceramic body that is incredibly comfortable to hold in the hands, and the smartphone weighs a little – 225 grams. The screen is frameless, with rounded sides, and the front camera is hidden under the display.
