Xiaomi MI 11 5G Review, Price, and Full specifications 2021

Xiaomi’s challenge is twofold: on the one hand it must maintain the high standards of the mid-range smartphones that have projected it among the main producers in the world, on the other it needs to establish itself even in the highest range, demonstrating – among others things – even the ability to innovate, but will the new Mi 11 5G be enough ?

Creating added value has become central in this market, now studded with clones on clones and overlapping specifications, for this reason the Mi 10 Ultra was born, and for the same reason the battle is moving more and more on the services and functionality. The race for the extra “Giga of RAM” seems to have stopped, even that of extreme resolutions on similar diagonals, in short, the battleground has changed.

THE REAR EYE THAT GIVES CHARACTER

Precisely for this need to differentiate everyone has finally come up with something different from an aesthetic point of view and even Xiaomi wanted to stand out by creating an unprecedented design of the rear optical group , with a big “eye” that stands out on everything. Underneath, in fact, there is the huge 108MP image sensor which will be – at the end of everything – one of the true protagonists of this new generation, not only for photos but also and above all for videos.

I really like the slightly frosted, matte rear glass, which improves grip and also makes it less slippery than other direct competitors like the Galaxy S21 + . Maximum attention to construction details, the Mi 11 will be for Xiaomi one of the main business cards of this 2021 and nothing seems to have been left to chance. You can also notice this by pointing the magnifying glass on the screen printing that enhances the collaboration with Harman / Kardon in the creation of the two speakers, certainly not just any partner.

It is also important to underline the considerable size, we are in fact talking about a 6.81-inch smartphone which, however, makes the most of the front surface available with the display and therefore remains at the limit in overall size. Putting it next to a Mi 10 Pro you can see the points of convergence but also the small differences: the Mi 11 is slightly narrower and a little longer (20: 9 format), but it is also thinner and lighter by about 12 grams, an almost miracle given the generational shift.

WHAT A DISPLAY!

It almost seems that Xiaomi has decided not to compromise in some respects and the display is the exact representation: the absolute protagonist of this round, the Flexible OLED with diamond pixels is one of those that tear a “wow” at first sight. In addition to being very bright, it is also one of the most faithful around, a real pleasure for the eyes and little, very little space for the frames in all directions including the sides, where the panel curves just enough to provide that right feeling of aerodynamics. .

But it is still a smartphone, not a supercar, which is why this curvature is also useful for gaining a few millimeters in width and thus improving grip, not at all uncomfortable as you might imagine.

MULTIPURPOSE FINGERPRINT READER

It is not enough to say that the biometric sensor is very fast and it only takes a few moments to unlock the terminal, Xiaomi has gone further; this fundamental component – supplied by the Chinese Goodix – has in fact been updated with a new feature that uses light to also measure our heartbeat.

From the tests done I can say that it already works very well and the monitoring also seems accurate after comparing it with the measurements of some enabled smartwatches. The results are online, however it should be noted that I had to download the APK of the Mi Health application (Health), not present by default in my Mi 11. Once downloaded and reached the appropriate section, just put one of the fingertips to have an estimate in about ten seconds , very convenient for those who do not like wrist accessories and still want to keep an eye on their beats on the move.

SNAPDRAGON 888 MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

This is the first smartphone I try with the brand new Qualcomm platform and I was obviously curious to test all the announced improvements firsthand, although we must then remember that each partner manufacturer has the right to vary certain things and adapt the System-on-Chip to their own. needs. The prized piece of the San Diego house, Snapdragon 888, has thus revealed itself for what it is, that is, a platform capable of further raising the bar without breaking a sweat.

Acceptable temperatures even under stress; during our tests (at maximum load for over 15 minutes) the CPU never rose above 87.9 ° C and for the battery it did not go above 47 ° C. It should be noted that, almost at rest and with only one generic app running, the three Cortex-A78 often work with a frequency ranging between 2 and 2.4GHz, while the four Cortex-A55 clocks at 1Ghz remain almost silent. (max arrive at 1.8GHz) and the very powerful Cortex-X1, dozing off at 844Mhz but with the possibility of reaching 2.8GHz.

Playing is a pleasure for the eyes; with this large display – and the Adreno 660 GPU – it almost goes without saying that you have the keys to enjoy the best titles in the Play Store in maximum detail and, once again, without setting your smartphone on fire. The only problem (although it is perhaps exaggerated to call it such) I found it in the position of the second speaker at the top, simply because, playing and holding the smartphone in landscape, it is difficult not to obstruct it. Sometimes I have therefore looked for strange hand positions to be able to fully enjoy it.

CAMERA AND VIDEO

Xiaomi has put a lot of emphasis on the multimedia sector, on the other hand smartphones are now increasingly considered as connected video cameras / cameras than anything else and the Mi 11 has certainly added a bit of spice with effects that I will tell you shortly .

To steal the show is the huge 108MP image sensor (1 / 1.33 “) that stands out on the rear module, capable of convincing itself through photos and videos. The former are truly excellent in all lighting conditions. very rich in details even when you shoot automatically and you get 27MP shots (6016 x 4512 pixels and 12 / 14MB of weight) extremely rich in details. Try it? Look what happens by zooming in on this photo, getting very close is not lost almost a pixel!

“KILLER” EFFECTS

And it is thanks to this platform that Xiaomi has released the imagination and fine-tuned some camera functions that I allow myself to define “killer”. In time of social networks and unbridled sharing of photos and videos, in fact, I find the two new categories in the camera app that are called “Clone” and “Film Effects” brilliant : both allow you to activate fun and useful filters Photo and video.

The protagonist is therefore one of the most important components and I’m talking about the Spectra 580, which is also the first Qualcomm with triple ISP (Image Signal Processor). Thanks to its real-time processing capability, you can play with similar functions, experiment without the need for complex post-editing operations, and take advantage of cameras in a whole new way.

CONCLUSIONS

The Mi 11 5G is the demonstration that for a top of the range with a capital “T” you do not need exaggerated capital, the 799 euros required for the basic version (8 / 128GB) are in fact the same as the Mi 10 on day one, with the difference that the newcomer does not seem to have compromises of any kind. Compared to last year, in fact, we can count on: a better display, more computing power and graphics, even better 4K video, 55W charging, a few grams less and a more attractive, modern design.
