Motorola Edge 20 Pro review: Retail Price in Pakistan 2021

New smartphones of the Motorola Edge series have lost their original appearance – the first Edge had a rounded screen and a back cover, when all 2021 models are flat. But Motorola Edge 20 Pro definitely deserves the name Pro due to its characteristics.

It has a great 6.7-inch OLED display with 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10 + support and 1 billion colors. The main camera shoots at a resolution of 108 megapixels, and videos can be recorded in 8K. There is also a telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. The processor is the Snapdragon 870, a step up from the SD778 from the Edge 20.

The battery capacity has increased from 4000 to 4500 mAh, although the 30W charging speed is not the fastest. The main thing is that there is support for the Ready For function for connecting to a PC, which is characteristic of more and more expensive Motorola. Moto Edge 20 Pro costs from 120,000 rupees.

Motorola Edge 20 Pro and Motorola Edge 20

The Motorola Edge 20 Pro comes in a dark blue box with the Moto logo and model name on the front.

Design and appearance

The front 6.7-inch OLED panel is protected by Gorilla Glass 5, while the front-facing camera sits in a small hole in the middle of the top of the display. There are two versions of the smartphone: with a glass or eco-leather back cover. The glass surface has an iridescent dark blue coating, and it looks attractive. Many prints remain on the matte surface, but they are almost invisible.

Motorola Edge 20 Pro design

The Motorola bat logo can be seen in the middle of the rear panel, but there is no fingerprint scanner, unlike other Moto models. The module with three main cameras is located in the upper left corner, the sensors are located vertically one below the other. The module does not protrude much, but so that the phone does not sway on the table, I advise you to put on a cover.

Motorola Edge 20 Pro on top

The Edge 20 Pro is 8mm thick – 1mm thicker than the Edge 20. The side bezels are some kind of coated aluminum, but they still get more prints than the back. All keys are located at a not very comfortable height – the power button with a fingerprint scanner is on the right, it’s hard to reach it with your thumb. Volume keys are even higher.

The Motorola Edge 20 Pro also has a separate button for calling the Google Assistant, although its location is even more strange – at the very top of the left side. However, if you rarely use voice assistants, the key will at least not interfere with you.

Motorola Edge 20 Pro management

At the bottom, you’ll find a slot for two nano-SIM cards, no microSD card support. Nearby is a USB-C port, a single speaker and a main microphone. Above there is only a second microphone – there was no place for a headphone jack.

Smartphone screen

The Motorola Edge 20 Pro smartphone is equipped with a 6.7-inch OLED display with Full HD + resolution and an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9.

The refresh rate is 144 Hz, and the polling rate of the sensor layer is 576 Hz. There is support for HDR10 + along with the display of 1 billion shades. The Edge 20 Pro peaks at 485 nits in manual mode, and 670 nits in automatic mode. This is sufficient for outdoor use, but most competitors have 100-200 nits higher.

Motorola Edge 20 Pro screen cutout

The default is a rich, wide gamut color profile suitable for DCI-P3 content. The profile corresponds to the sRGB color space. There is also a temperature slider for manual adjustment. The Saturated profile has a noticeable shift towards blue colors, and the hue accuracy is not the highest. If you move the temperature slider one step to the right, the dE2000 deviation becomes a more acceptable 2.6. But the Natural Profile has almost excellent results – the average dE2000 is only 0.8.

When it comes to refresh rates, the Edge 20 Pro can choose between 60Hz, 144Hz and Auto. The first two will set the refresh rate at the appropriate rates, and it will not change anywhere, except for standard applications like Camera and Google Maps – there it does not rise above 60 Hz. And the video is played at 144 Hz, even if there is no point in it.

The Auto mode is weird – it changes the frequency between 48, 60, 90 and 120 Hz, but somehow not 144 Hz. As long as you touch the Edge 20 Pro’s display, it will turn on 120Hz, and after a short period of inactivity, it will drop to 60Hz. This behavior can be observed in almost all applications, although on YouTube the frequency is always 60 Hz, and on Netflix it is 60 Hz when watching videos and 120 Hz when navigating the interface.

Motorola Edge 20 Pro cameras

One of the main advantages of the Edge 20 Pro over the regular Motorola Edge 20 is the telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom instead of 3x.

Otherwise, the characteristics of the cameras are the same: in addition to the periscope lens, here the main lens is 108 megapixels and the ultra-wide-angle 16 megapixels with a macro function. The front sensor has a resolution of 32 megapixels.

Shooting with Motorola Edge 20 Pro

True, there are no obvious shortcomings: the detail is high, and the shades are natural. The dynamic range is not wide enough, so there is not enough saturation in the images. There is a full-fledged 108 megapixel mode, but it has no visible advantages over 12 megapixels.

The ultra-wide-angle camera has high contrast and accurate tint, and autofocus allows you to get interesting shots with a wide angle of view. The application has a macro function. While the photos may not look at the full 16MP, they are better than the individual macro lenses of competitive smartphones.

Motorola Edge 20 Pro night mode

The video shoots Moto Edge 20 Pro at maximum quality 8K / 24 fps, or in 4K at 30/60 fps. The resolution of the video from the ultra-wide-angle camera and telephoto lens is 1080p / 30 fps. Stabilization is available and a choice of H.264 or H.265 codecs.

The Motorola Edge 20 Pro follows in the footsteps of past Moto’s with a near-pure Android operating system with a few extra features.

Is Motorola Edge 20 Pro worth buying

But for all the drawbacks, the Moto Edge 20 Pro is a worthy continuation of the Edge lineup and keeps Motorola one of the leading smartphone manufacturers.
