Mi 10T 2020 vs Mi 9T: Full specs comparison
The Mi 10T was launched on Wednesday (30) with some very significant changes compared to the previous generation. Unlike the Mi 9T, the smartphone does not reach the market as a renamed version of the Redmi K30 line and is the first non-gamer model in the world with a 144 Hz refresh rate screen.
Not only in relation to the screen, but the Mi 10T has also evolved on many fronts when compared to the Mi 9T. Therefore, Phonebechdou organizes in the following paragraphs the main differences and improvements between them, so that you can decide if it is worth betting on the new generation or if the older model still does the job.
Mi 10T vs. Mi 9T: design
The Mi 10T did not adopt any visual aspect of the Mi 9T – which can be good or bad, depending on the user’s preference. At the rear, that futuristic Mi 9T design comes out and a more sober look comes in, similar to many smartphones launched in 2020.
The Mi 10T camera set now follows the domino (or cooktop ) style, a feature that has become a trend this year, while the Mi 9T has its sensors arranged in a vertical and less aggressive way.
In the frontal region, the Mi 10T also brings some changes: the screen of the new smartphone now has a hole to house the front camera, which may not please those who like to watch movies and series without any interruption.
The Mi 9T, in turn, drew a lot of attention for having almost 100% use of the screen thanks to the selfies sensor located in a retractable module – that is, which is ejected from the body of the device when activated.
Mi 10T vs. Mi 9T: screen and audio
- Xiaomi Mi 10T: 6.67 inch LCD, 144 Hz refresh rate, Full HD + resolution;
- Xiaomi Mi 9T: 6.39-inch AMOLED, 60 Hz, Full HD + resolution.
As mentioned above, the Mi 10T has a hole in the screen for the front camera, while its predecessor has a retractable module, leaving the display without any notch or notch.
In addition to the appearance, all technical aspects have been changed: the newest model is the first non-gamer phone in the world with a 144 Hz refresh rate screen, which ensures even smoother animations. The Mi 9T, having been launched in 2019, still brings 60 Hz frequency, a characteristic that should be even more out of date in 2021.
The size of the display has also changed: 6.67 inches in the new generation versus 6.39 inches in the older model. Both have Full HD + resolution, but the Mi 10T Pro is equipped with an LCD panel, while the Mi 9T uses AMOLED. In practice, the launch features a lower contrast ratio than its predecessor, but promises to compensate with a brightness of up to 650 nits.
Regarding audio, the Mi 10T has two stereo speakers against mono audio of the older model.
Mi 10T vs. Mi 9T: cameras
- Xiaomi Mi 10T: 64 MP (main), 13 MP (ultra wide angle), 5 MP (macro), 20 MP (front);
- Xiaomi Mi 9T: 48 MP (main), 13 MP (ultra wide angle), 8 MP (telephoto), 20 MP (front).
Both have a triple set of cameras at the rear, but the Mi 10T takes advantage of the main sensor of 64 MP, against 48 MP of the previous generation, and in the presence of a sensor with macro lens to photograph objects closer. However, the Mi 9T has a telephoto lens that offers 2x optical zoom, not available on the new smartphone.
In addition, it is important to mention the support for 8K recording of the Mi 10T thanks to the cutting-edge Snapdragon 865 chip, while the Mi 9T is capable of recording in 4K resolution at 30 frames per second – which is also very good.
Mi 10T vs. Mi 9T: processor and memory
- Xiaomi Mi 10T: Snapdragon 865 5G (1×2.84 GHz Kryo 585 & 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 585 & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 585);
- Xiaomi Mi 9T: Snapdragon 730G (2×2.2 GHz Kryo 470 Gold & 6×1.8 GHz Kryo 470 Silver).
The main improvement between the generations is in the hardware . Unlike the traditional Mi 9T, which was launched as a premium intermediary, the Mi 10T and its Pro version are equipped with the powerful Snapdragon 865. In addition to the superior performance, the smartphone also supports 5G networks.
If maximum performance is not a rule for you, however, the Mi 9T and its Snapdragon 730G chip should still handle most games and apps available on the Play Store.
Regarding the memory options, the Mi 10T has 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, while the Mi 9T has only a version with 6 GB, but with options of 64 GB or 128 GB of storage.
Mi 10T vs. Mi 9T: battery
Xiaomi Mi 10T: 5,000 mAh with 33 W charge;
Xiaomi Mi 9T: 4,000 mAh with 18 W charge.
To handle all the processing power, the Mi 10T has 5,000 mAh battery , 1,000 mAh more than the Mi 9T. It is not yet possible to determine how much this difference will be felt in practice, since the most powerful smartphone has a more “gastona” screen.
According to Xiaomi , however, the Mi 10T comes with a 33 W charger in the box, which is almost twice as fast as the 18 W of the Mi 9T.
Mi 10T vs. Mi 9T: extra features
Going against the grain of smartphones, the Mi 10T does not have a fingerprint reader under the screen due to the choice of the LCD panel. The company’s solution was to include the sensor on the right side of the device, built into the On / Off button.
The Mi 9T, as well as its brother Mi 9T Pro , have the digital reader under the screen thanks to the AMOLED panel. Regarding the speed of unlocking, however, it is not yet possible to determine.
Because of its more advanced processing, Xiaomi also included a number of features in the Mi 10T’s cameras, such as long automatic exposure, color effects and the possibility to clone the user, registering different poses and bringing everything together in one image automatically. .
Mi 10T vs. Mi 9T: is it worth upgrading ?
As you can see above, the Mi 10T brought improvements on basically all fronts when compared to the previous generation. Unlike the traditional Mi 9T, it becomes top of the line, with cutting edge chip, support for 5G networks, cameras capable of filming in 8K and 144 Hz frequency screen.
